Main research interests

  • numerical methods for fluid dynamics and fluid-structure interaction
  • moving geometry problems: immersed surfaces and moving boundaries
  • numerical analysis and optimal control of PDEs
  • image processing, segmentation and registration
  • applications to life sciences: brain waste clearance, cardiac hemodynamics and valve dynamics
  • applications to engineering: free sufrace problems ink-jet printing

Current projects

Numerical modeling of the physiological and pathological function of the brain and central nervous system (P.I. Paola F. Antonietti)


Multiscale modeling and engineering applications, with the development of models, algorithms, and codes capable of exploiting the abilities of high-performance computing machines. Cross-disciplinary project involving 11 universities and research centers and many industrial partners.
